When I was 18 years old I got my first job as a nanny. It was a live-in position for the summer after my freshman year in college. Over the last 14 years I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with a lot of great families but I can say without a doubt that first job was the worst job I’ve ever had. At 18 I had absolutely no idea about fair wages, contracts or standards in the nanny industry. What I thought would be a fun summer job turned into a valuable lesson on respecting my worth and making sure my prospective employer and I are on the same page from the get go.
